What happens during the driving test?
There has been some changes to the way the driving test is conducted. You may not take the test in your local area, as the test centre should have facilities to cleaning hands. The driving examiner will limit contact with the candidate and ask that you clean your hands before starting the driving test. Your instructor will not be able to accompany you during the driving test nor listen to the debrief at the end. If you are showing any signs of Covid-19 you should cancel your test as it will not go ahead.
If a candidate commits a serious/dangerous fault or accumulates more than 15 driver faults the examiner will terminate the test, although he will instruct the candidate to drive back to the test centre before giving the result.
What criteria is used for booking tests?
Priority is currently given to NHS & Social Care workers. There is a huge demand for emergency tests and the DVSA follow strict guidelines when providing this service.
How will me driving lessons be conducted?
Driving lessons will be conducted to the same high standards as you would expect from your driving coach. Your instructor will make sure their vehicle is clean and its essential that both the student and instructor wash their hands before entering the vehicle. At no time should lessons be conducted if the student or instructor is showing signs on COVID-19. If the student or instructor believes they have come into contact with someone who is showing signs on COVID-19 then they should not conduct lessons and follow the government guidelines.
