This RoadMap should help people understand when and how driving lessons will commence. During this period I will monitor the statistics and advice coming from the government, the health and safety of my clients will be at the front of any decision that is made to begin driver training.
It's important that we limit contact with others outside our household and follow the current guidelines set out by the government. Currently driving tests are being rescheduled. Customers will be invited onto an early booking platform when driving tests become available again.
Saturday 4th July 2020
I will begin to contact all Non Essential Driving Lesson students who are willing to begin their driver training. Priority will be given to students with a driving test booked.
Other New Learners
On Monday 6th July 2020 I will begin to take on new learners who are looking to begin their driver training.
How will I keep the vehicle safe?
I will take the following steps to ensure the risks to your driving lessons are reduced.
Request that all students Wash/Clean their hands before commencing a driving lesson.
Request that anyone with Covid symptoms or those who have been in contact with anyone showing signs of Covid do not begin their driver training and self-isolate as per the government advice.
Vehicle sanitisation before & after on all contact points using on the market products that remove Viruses and Bacteria.
Ventilation in vehicle - ie Windows Open. More time spent outside the vehicle if possible.
Limit contact between instructor and student. This may for example require more frequent use of the dual controls where touching the steering wheel may have been a better option.
Make available hand cleaning products in the tuition vehicle.
Communicate with students before and after lessons to ensure they are in good health.
Wearing of Masks or Coverings Currently I have no plans to ask that students wear face masks. However, if a students requests that I wear one I will comply. Any face covering or masks needs to be secure and not interfere with the controls or your ability to drive safely. This advice may change.
Are you providing Key Worker driving lessons? I have no plans to facilitate key workers at this stage. My aim is to work initially with the clients I have and who were taking lessons pre-lockdown. Providing lessons for key workers would not fit into the schedule and timeframes I have set out.
How will my driving test be conducted? I wrote a blog regarding the driving test and how it is currently conducted for key workers.
Driving examiners have been conducting Key Worker driving tests since lockdown began. The procedures are very similar to a normal test but the examiner will limit the contact in the vehicle.
This blog is set as a guide. At all times I will follow the guidance from the government, the DVSA and our collective associations. Your health and safety is of the utmost importance.
